COVID-19 has affected all industries in one way or another and this includes the hospitality and travel industry. If you have a vacation home you rent out, then you want to make sure that you are taking steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. You want to learn more about some of the things you may want to do in order to make sure someone who stays in your rental won't end up spreading or catching this illness from anything in your rental. Here are some of the things you can do to help make your vacation rental a safer place for guests to stay when they are on vacation:

Have at least 24 hours between bookings

You should think about making sure that there is at least one full day where the home is vacant between bookings. If you can have it vacant for even longer, then this may even be better. The longer you have the home vacant, the less chance there will be of there still being COVID-19 in the air. Since more is learned about the virus and its mutations each day, you want to err on the side of caution.

Make sure reusable items are taken care of properly, like bedding

In hotels, it is common for the sheets on a bed to be changed between guests, but for the blanket and bedspread to be reused. The thought process behind this is that the guests will normally sleep between the sheets and there will be limited contact with the blanket and bedspread. However, this is a policy that you want to avoid, especially during this pandemic. So, you want to alert the cleaners to the fact that all of the bedding needs to be washed between guests. All bedding, towels, washcloths, and any other laundry should also be washed on the highest heat possible.

Have the home aired out

While the home is being cleaned, and as much as possible between bookings, the home should be aired out. This means leaving as many of the doors and windows open for as long as possible.

Have the home cleaned and sanitized professionally

You should be having a professional cleaner clean and sanitize the vacation rental according to the CDC guidelines. Along with all of the routine cleaning, they should also make sure they properly sanitize all surfaces and items. They should also be washing their hands before they restock the home and once the home has been completely sanitized and restocked, the home should not be entered again until the new guests arrive.
