Once you understand how easy it is to have mold growing in your home, you will understand why you need to be diligent when it comes to keeping an eye out for it. You also want to learn why mold removal is going to be so important if you do find that you have mold in your home. This article is going to help you to understand both of these things.

How mold grows in a home

Mold spores are everywhere, and this includes inside of your home. When the conditions in your home aren't right for mold to grow, the spores won't do anything and you won't even be aware of their presence. This is due to the fact that the mold spores are so small they can't be seen with the naked eye.

When the mold spores land on a moist surface and other conditions are right for mold growth, then it will grow. The conditions that are needed for mold to grow include moisture, warm air, and a food source. The food source for mold growth includes particles of starch and/or sugar or biofilm. Some of the surfaces that mold can grow on include wood, plastic, drywall, tile, and many others. This is one reason why mold can be so destructive to your home; it can grow on most of the surfaces in and around your home.

Why mold needs to be removed

When you find mold in your home, it needs to be removed as quickly as possible for many reasons. One of the most important reasons is because it can be very bad for the health of anyone and possibly everyone who resides in the home.

People with asthma can be seriously affected when there is mold in the house, and they can find themselves having more asthma attacks and more serious ones. However, even those without asthma can be affected. Mold can cause many symptoms, some of which include sneezing, coughing, wheezing, irritated eyes, nasal congestion, rashes, and more.

Some mold is considered to be worse than others when it comes to health dangers. Black mold is considered to be the worst, and it can cause all the symptoms mentioned already, plus it can cause more serious ones, including respiratory problems and black mold poisoning, which can cause things like confusion, headaches, fatigue, fevers, numb extremities, and more.

Mold is also dangerous to the overall integrity of your home. It can eat away at everything from the flooring and insulation of your home to the drywall and wood. Mold can destroy your home so much that it can literally cause it to crumble around you. Living in a home with mold isn't only bad for you because of the health risks but also because the home can become unstable and unsafe for you and everyone else who is in it.
